"Drivers Tournament" Will Raise Funds for Turns for Troops and CSU's One Cure
May 9,2018 (Indianapolis, IN)- Honda-powered IndyCar Series Graham Rahal and the Graham Rahal Foundation announced today that the Foundation's Drivers Tournament will once again be held during Indianapolis 500 race week. The tournament will take place on Thursday, May 24, at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis, sponsored by equipment rental leader United Rentals. Funds raised through the tournament will be directed to two non-profit organizations: Turns for Troops and Colorado State University's OneCure.
Turns for Troops was founded by United Rentals, a longtime supporter of veterans' causes, in partnership with Rahal and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLLR). The initiative supports SoldierStrong, a program that helps fund education, rehabilitation and life-changing technologies for military veterans with combat-related injuries.
"United Rentals and RLLR share a deep commitment to helping military veterans succeed in their return to civilian life," said Chris Hummel, chief marketing officer of United Rentals. "Graham is a terrific partner and benefactor. Together, we've been able to raise over $300,000 for SoldierStrong, with more on the horizon."
One Cure, a Colorado State University Flint Animal Cancer Center initiative, joined Rahal and RLLR as a partner this season to raise awareness and ultimately funds to support its program. CSU's One Cure program is founded on the principle that cancer affects all creatures and that treatment breakthroughs come through collaboration between scientists and doctors working with people and animals. This approach is known as comparative oncology and it is the guiding concept of One Cure and the Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University.
"When Graham approached us to offerhis Foundation's support, we were thrilled," said Dr. Christine Hardy, program lead for CSU's One Cure. "Our partnership will help us advance our research to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pets and translate that knowledge to benefit people withcancer."
The 2018 Drivers Tournament has already gained the support of companies and individuals, both within IndyCar and throughout the broader business community. To participate in the Drivers Tournament or offer other support, contact Brooke Rowden: (317) 345-5952 or bprowden@grahamrahalfoundation.org.
